Professor Florian Ringel went to medical school in Munich, Germany and graduated in 1998. After graduation he spent 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Surgical Research at the University of Munich in a laboratory for Experimental Neurosurgery. His neurosurgical training started in 2001 at the University of Bonn under Professor Johannes Schramm. In 2006 he was board certified as a neurosurgeon and followed Professor Bernhard Meyer to the Technical University of Munich where he acted as a staff neurosurgeon and later as vice chairman of the department. He was appointed as assistant professor of neurosurgery in 2009 and professor of neurosurgery in 2015. In January 2016 he became acting chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Mainz.
His main clinical interests are microsurgery of tumors and vascular lesions and spine surgery. He published several articles on pre- and intraoperative mapping and monitoring.
